Improving Hotspot Coverage for Crypto Mining

MP Antenna's Solution for Helium's LoRaWan Hotspots, crypto mining.

Objective

Improve coverage in obstructed environments.

Solution

Multi-polarized antennas for better performance.

Problem

The Helium Hotspot lets users own and operate a wireless network for low-power Internet of Things (IoT) devices. With hundreds of square miles of connectivity, these wireless access points (WAP) can transmit data at a fraction of the cost of a cellular network. Plus, as a node for the Helium blockchain, hotspot owners can earn cryptocurrency when IoT devices use their gateway.

Most hotspots come with one or more external antenna ports, and the Helium Hotspot is no exception. LoRaWan, a low-power, wide-area networking (WAN) protocol, is used because of its long-range, bi-directional communication with very low power consumption. Devices can run for years on a small battery, but crypto miners need an antenna that won’t fail because of line of sight (LOS) obstructions.

Solution

MP Antenna supplies antennas for helium mining that are ideal for the obstructed environments in which many crypto miners operate. Because MP’s antennas are multi-polarized, they eliminate multi-path, the arrival of a transmitted signal from multiple paths due to reflections. Whether these reflections are due to buildings, trees, hills, or vehicles, multipath interferes with LoRaWan communications.

MP Antenna’s ability to support the frequency hopping that’s associated with LoRaWan also improves performance. These Made in the USA antennas help deliver the most consistent signal possible, eliminating jitters, slow throughput speeds, and intermodulation. Because they can receive vertical or horizontal signals regardless of orientation, there’s also better coverage regardless of differences in elevation.
